Most likely some of it existed, and was “grew” withal; — nay in the “lacking,” oblivious, or awkward state, it isn’t dead; yet alive and busy working, if mutely not less gainfully, some think considerably more so! But then Governments, doubtlessly, could in no way, shape or form get enough of it; practically none of it came their direction: what had happened to it? Really there must be something truly flawed, either in the insight of this observed Century, or in the strategies Governments currently have of providing their needs from the equivalent. One or other of two thousand central weaknesses, with respect to acumen or human illumination, is truly unmistakable right now of our own; for it has now gotten the most anarchic of Centuries; in other words, has fallen for all intents and purposes into such Egyptian dimness that it can’t grab its way by any stretch of the imagination! Nay I rather think both about these deficiencies, deadly shortages both, are chargeable upon us; and it is the joint gather of both that we are presently procuring with such ruin to our undertakings. I rather surmise, the astuteness of the Nineteenth Century, so loaded with supernatural occurrence to Heavyside and others, is itself a mechanical or beaver insight as opposed to a high or prominently human one. A diminish and mean however valid sort of keenness, this; admired uniquely in imperfection of better.
